Walter Benstead had a forty-year career doing petroleum exploration and studying sedimentary basins. This was across five Canadian provinces, Alaska, the Canadian Arctic and overseas. Upon retirement he spent multiple years living and skiing at Panorama as well as writing several books; his first book, “Geology of the Panorama Ski Hill” and his most recent book is titled “Tales of the Arctic “(Amazon.ca). The rock exposures in the treeless Arctic are a visual lesson in geology just as are the outcrop exposures along the Invermere Panorama Road. Sharing his intrigue in these features is the reason he put together this adventure for the Wings Festival.
