Mara Nelson is Ktunaxa, her family comes from Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡiʔit, Tobacco Plains. A late comer to language learning, she has been making up for lost time by being a dedicated student alongside her many cherished peers. A steadfast educator, Mara was an Education Assistant specializing in Sign Language Translation before committing her time to sharing her passion of learning the Ktunaxa language. She promotes language revitalization and shares her teachings with the students and educators who live on the traditional homelands of the Ktunaxa People. Her dedication to continue growing as a learner and speaker will be a life’s work that she will continue to share as she grows.
