David Bradley is the Director of the BC Program at Birds Canada, where he has guided avian conservation programming for over 10 years. He completed his PhD in New Zealand where he studied the function of vocal dialects in shaping the conservation outcome of a rare and endangered songbird, the North Island Kokako. In 2025, his Birds Canada team are studying the Long-billed Curlew at the Skookumchuck Prairie Key Biodiversity Area. Specifically, they are examining the breeding productivity of curlews nesting under varying land management scenarios, from natural grasslands under a low disturbance regime to higher intensity land uses such as tame pasture and cattle grazing.
Brian Wesley, a local birding enthusiast, has been a resident of the valley for the past 13th years. Brian has participated in numerous birding studies: British Columbia Breeding Bird Atlas, Saskatchewan Breeding Bird Atlas, Wildlife Canada Services Lewis’ Woodpecker Studies and the Columbia Wetlands Waterbird Survey. He remains an active birder, completing annual Birds Canada Nightjar Survey, BC and Yukon Owl Survey, Columbia Valley Bank Swallow Survey and Wildlife Canada Services North American Breeding Bird Survey. He is a member of the Wings over the Rockies Board. His guided walks are always popular at the Wings Festival.
