Nicole Kapell

Nicole obtained a Bachelor of Arts with Honors from Trent University in Ontario in 2005, majoring in Anthropology with a minor in Archaeology. She worked as an archaeological consultant in Belize, Central America, Northern British Columbia and Alberta, and more recently in the Kootenay region of Southeast British Columbia. Nicole joined the Ktunaxa Nation Council in 2010 and is currently involved in stewarding archaeological and cultural heritage resources within the Ktunaxa Territory. Nicole has been conducting archaeological work in the Kootenay’s for the past six years, and has recently established a repository for archaeological materials at the Ktunaxa Government building in Cranbrook. Nicole is a part of the Ktunaxa Nation Columbia River Treaty Review Team and is well versed in the cultural impacts that the Treaty has had on the Ktunaxa, including the loss of salmon.
